Week in training

My training brain was triggered as soon as the confirmation above landed in my inbox. I have huge goals for this race. And when you have huge goals, you have to get down to business. No excuses. This week was a pure test of my time management skills.

YOGA

I am still practicing strong in the yoga challenge. I haven’t missed a class yet. There have been a few times this past week where I just wanted to lay down on my back and stare at the ceiling. But of course, I did no such thing. I powered through and by the end of class, I was feeling wonderful.

CROSSFIT

I made it to one class. I went at 7:30 p.m. following yoga. I am convinced this was not a bright idea. At the time I thought it would be no sweat. By the end of the class, I was feeling pretty drained. It was great to work out with my coworker Jeff and wife Dee. This week I am determined to make it to at least two 6 a.m. classes.

RUNNING

Hoorah! I ran four times. Granted three of the runs were fairly short but I did get my butt out on the road. On Sunday, I enjoyed a fun two-hour run with the Running Room crew. The falling snow made it a tough go. Thankfully it was not cold. The worst part was actually driving to the Running Room. My legs are a little sore as I write this but I blame the backsquats from crossfit. I am feeling confident that I will cross the finish line at the hypothermic half in two weeks.

EATING

I am still eating raw. My energy levels are good and I don’t feel deprived. (Okay I really miss rice right now.) The most difficult part is being prepared. Eating a healthy plant-based diet takes a lot of time and preparation. I find eating raw has added to the time spent in the kitchen. I usually carve out a couple of hours on Sunday to meal prep for the week. Lately I have had to add more time during the week to prepare my food. It can get boring real easy so I try to keep things interesting.

Did I mention I finally bought a spiralizer? It’s definitely improved the versatility of my meals. Lately I have been spiralling everything. I love spiralized beets!

Anyway this week will be more of the same: yoga + crossfit + running. After the 30-day challenge, I will sit down and write my training schedule for Lost Soul and everything in between.

Audrey and I have entered the NYC marathon lottery. It’s been exactly five years since we ran NYC, our first marathon. We thought it would be pretty cool to go back this year. We’ll find out in March. If we don’t make it, I will consider running another marathon in the fall.

Happy running.
