Mountain yoga

mountain yogaKaren and I joined Breeze Yoga for a little hike and a little yoga on top of Coliseum Mountain on Sunday. As you can see from the photo, there was a good size group. (I drove alone because my plan was to run down after the yoga.)

mountain yogaHere’s a map of the area. I am not very familiar with the area but I would like to come back and explore more this summer. This hike isn’t too difficult. It took us 2:30 and we were going at a slow to moderate pace.

mountain yogaMost people strapped their yoga mat to their hiking bag. I wore my running vest so I was forced to carry my mat up the mountain. I had the good sense to tie it up so it wasn’t flopping all over the place.

mountain yogaLook at those views! This section of the hike is a welcome relief after some crazy switchbacks. Right before we hit this section, we stopped to take pictures and a quick snack. (Thanks Breanna for the dried fruit!)

mountain yogaI guess I was supposed to do a yoga pose here. While I love to give directions when I take photos, I never know what to do when someone takes my photo. Karen looks great though! Lots of great humans on the hike. I think we talked about everything from kombucha to the West Coast Trail. Good times.

mountain yogaWe made it to the top! Breanna gives us a little pep talk before we get down to business. She guided us through a relaxed gentle flow yoga class (whatever the hell that means). Karen also helped with corrections or adjustments. (She recently completely her yoga teacher training.) Mother Nature was on our side as she kept the winds away. We only had one scary moment with blowing yoga mats.

mountain yoga(I didn’t take too many photos because … well …. yoga.) What an experience. How many people can say they practised yoga on top of a mountain? Perfect timing to stretch out those tight muscles after some vertical. Our hike leader brewed hot tea for us to enjoy and take in the views.

I left the gang after yoga. I wanted to shake out my legs and run fast. I was worried my legs would be super stiff after Saturday’s run but surprisingly they did not let me down.

Would I do this again? Absolutely. I am thankful that Karen invited me to tag along. I hope the studio organizes another hike/yoga excursion. (Now I may try to convince Jackie and Breanna at Bikram Yoga to organize a similar yoga outing.)

Have you ever practised yoga on a mountain?

  1. That looked and sounded so wonderful! As per usual, am SO jealous!!

  2. Yoga at the top of a hike? Sounds awesome, but also sounds pretty tiring. Will definitely have to try at one point or another.
