Failing and that’s okay

In January I rocked a 30-day hot yoga challenge. (By “rocked,” I mean I showed up to the mat for 30 days in a row.) So when the board went up for another challenge in early September, I eagerly scribbled my name at the top.

I don’t know what I was thinking. Truthfully I wasn’t thinking at all.

Straight off the bat I would miss four days because I was out of town for a race. Then I got promoted, which meant more hours at the office. I was away for the weekend. Suddenly I missed like two weeks of the challenge. There was no way I could double up or even triple up on classes to complete the challenge.

Normally this would have stressed me out to all levels. I hate starting something and not finishing or failing. It keeps me up at night. But not this time. I thought – what the hell it is only a personal challenge. Nobody cares. I will go when I can and I will be okay with that. Let me repeat I will be okay with it

I may have gone six times out of the 30 days. I didn’t count. Again okay with this. Right now I am finding my yoga groove. I had a few rough classes but I am starting to feel more present in class. There’s a hiccup. I can no longer make it the 5:30 p.m. classes because I work until about 6 p.m. (I loved the 5:30 p.m. class.)

Early morning or late night?

That means I can attend either the 6 a.m. or the 7:30 p.m. class. Both times have their benefits and drawbacks. For the 6 a.m. class, I would have to get up at 5:30ish. Remember I did this for two years for crossfit. I am used to those extra hours of sleep now. As for the 7:30 p.m. class, the biggest drawback is the lateness. By the time I get home it’s about 9:30 p.m. I would have to eat dinner very early or very late.

Hmmm …. so far I have not made a decision. I have to manage my time better and figure out my action plan. My mind and body really, really loves the hot yoga. I just need to shake the cobwebs out of my head and make my mind up to just do it.

  1. I’ve missed yoga for 5 weeks in a row since I go on my lunch break. So glad i got back to it last week. More class, up early…Oh I’d have a hard time with mornings. I’d probably go for the evening class, might help you sleep well though you still need to eat!
