Hint of winter

winter

Three days ago I was basking in autumn’s full glory as I ran along the Red Deer River. Yesterday I dug out my winter running clothes for my first run in winter conditions. Gosh fall was short-lived. Didn’t the leaves just turn?

Winter, false alarm?

I am crossing my fingers that the snow will melt. Mother Nature does like to play jokes now and then. I took my car to the shop earlier in the week and it was crazy busy with people changing out their tires for the season. It’s only Oct. 10. I am not ready for five months of snow and frigid temperatures. I want more fall.

It wasn’t too cold, maybe -8C, but still I bundled up like it was -25C. I am always one to overdress even though I know full well that I will be wishing I wore less within a few minutes of running. I would rather be hot than too cold. (Maybe I’ll sweat off all those extra office treats that I have been downing lately.)

Everything old is new again

Don’t get me wrong, I love the changing of seasons. Running after the first snowfall is always amazing. Nothing beats the freshness in the air. Tree branches captured the snow and there was a frosting of snow on the river. Footprints were scattered on snowy path. I wasn’t the only one excited to take that first almost winter run. There were tons of people out walking and taking pictures of the almost winter wonderland. Once the temperatures drop,  doubt I will see as many people. I like to hibernate too in the winter.

Thanksgiving

I hope you had a wonderful day with your family and friends. I would like to give thanks to running for all the positive things it has brought into my life – fitness, friends, patience, motivation and determination.

Happy trails.
