Hello, it’s me

Well hello there.

You may have noticed that it has been all quiet on the Running with Rhyno front – at least here. If you’re reading this, thank you for your patience. Other things have taken priority over blogging. I had to take some time off because I had many things on my plate and I felt like I was being pulled in a million different directions. But now I am back and ready to spring some life into my blog.

So let’s catch up …

I skipped out on the 25K Fat Ass run in Calgary. I simply wasn’t feeling it. Instead I have put my focus on training for Iron Legs 60K and Lost Soul 54K. I am following a Relentless Forward Progress. I highly recommend this book if you’re interesting in running ultras. Great read.

Because of the crazy weather, I have stayed in Red Deer for most runs lately. No trips to the mountains. I have been mostly running alone. One day I ran with Amanda at the inside track at the Collicutt Centre. I recently wrote about my experience in the AdvocateIt wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be but I much prefer the track at the Penhold Arena.

And … I bought a treadmill

(More on this in another post). It hasn’t arrived yet but I am super excited to delve into treadmill training. I used to shun treadmills in the past but I am pressed for time and I want to get my workouts regardless of time of day. So all you anti-treadmill folks, please do not judge me.

I signed up for a “surprise” distance race

Amanda and I are challenging the JaJa Marathon. Don’t worry if haven’t heard about it before because I haven’t either. It’s supposed to be based on  Barclay Marathons. Only 50 or so runners are “invited” to take part. It’s in April and it was only $20. Can’t beat that price and it’s in Lacombe so I don’t have to book a hotel.  That brings my race tally to three this year. No doubt I will add more as the year progresses.

On the non-running front

I have been to Edmonton a few times to visit Carleigh and for a vegan brunch. I’ve been getting back into the socializing groove so that’s been fun. Often when I get into training mode I lose sight of other things other than work. It’s nice to reconnect and to check in with old friends. Carleigh and I went to see Margaret Trudeau in St. Albert. What a great speaker! On the same trip, I spent $200 at the Korean grocer and another Asian grocery store. Let’s just say I have a thing for seaweed and tofu.

Work is going okay. I am starting to get the hang of things. I really miss writing though. This year I am going to start freelancing again. Well that’s it … we’re all caught up.

Until next time … happy trails.
