The Beauty of a Local Race

Not so early Saturday morning, I picked Laura up in the Versa and I sped all the way to Lacombe. On tap that morning was Bill’s Trail Run. Our plan was to run the 10-miler together. Laura had never been on the trails before so I was happy to introduce them to her.

Runners wait around for the start of the race.

As you can see above there were tons of people. It was great to see the familiar faces. Usually I am not around for the local races so it was great to reconnect. I loved that the shirts for the race were orange because it was Orange Shirt Day.

Free coffee!

I don’t know how the race organizers swung it but there was free coffee before and after the race. Loved it. I always crave a coffee after a run because I try not to drink any before running. It just doesn’t mix well with my belly.

So cute!

Laura is all smiles and ready to take on 10 miles. Laura is such a good sport. She didn’t get upset at all because I lied about the “no hills.” I am thankful for friends who have a sense of humour.

Bringing it home! Thanks Amanda for the picture.

My legs felt pretty good except for when we hit the pavement. Then I got a little whiny. It was great to see Amanda at the top of this last hill. Her screaming was really encouraging and motivational (not really). Diana and her crew once again put on a great race. There were some craziness with the runners though. I heard that there were a handful that signed up for the 10-miler but dropped down to the 10K but didn’t tell anybody. And others that just stopped and didn’t tell anybody. Who does that? Can you imagine all the headaches for the race director and timers?

Here is our post run picture! I just need a coffee.

Yes I know what you’re thinking – why did you wear a hydration pack for only 10 miles? And why is it so dirty? A. I love wearing by pack. B. It’s because I am a train wreck and I toss my pack around a lot.

We had a super fun run. Laura really loved the trails. She talked about bringing Ghost out for a run. I am sure he would love the trails. We were lucky because it was a perfect fall day. The next day was very winter like. I was happy that I was able to run! I wasn’t sure how my right leg would feel but it surprised me – hoorah for no pain!
