Video: Views from Prairie & Moose Mountains

I don’t know why I hesitated. As I tugged the covers closer around me, I contemplated staying in bed. It was already 8 a.m. and I was a couple of hours behind for when I like to be on the road. The day was still early if I moved I could be on the road before 9 a.m.

A couple of hours later, I am navigating the snow and rocks on the moose mountain trail. Why did even consider staying around the city? The two-hour drive was well worth the fresh air and mountain views.

I had a very strong run. I wasn’t sure how my legs would feel after this week. I had no issues. I credit my Saucony Koa ST for turning me into a rockstar even if it was just for one day. These aggressive sneakers were made for this trail – so awesome. I felt very confident as I flew down that rocky bit of moose.

I like this picture with the clouds in the background.

I made it to the false summit before I turned around. You never know what you’re going to get on Moose Mountain. Sometimes there’s no wind but today was very windy and chilly. It wasn’t long before I couldn’t feel my fingers or my face. I definitely was not going to say hi to the fire lookout woman today.

You can see the summit in the distance … maybe another kilometre away.

I just love all the colours in this picture. Too bad it was so windy, I would have liked to have spent more time taking photos and soaking in the beauty. I know soon enough this peak will be covered in snow. I was lucky to get out on such a nice day.

The little Versa that could .. and did make it up the mountain road!

I usually run Moose Mountain from West Bragg Creek trails for roughly 30 kms. I didn’t feel like navigating the possible snow, I chose the mindless route. I drove up the Moose Mountain Road to the makeshift parking lot. This road was not kind to the Versa.

We may look like bank robbers …

On Friday, Rachel and I went up the usual way up Prairie Mountain and down the other side. I haven’t seen Rachel in weeks. I think we hiked more than we did any running but that’s OK. We had lots to talk about.

My gosh was it ever windy on Prairie. Just like Moose … you never know what you’re going to get on the mountain. We ran into a few hikers on the mountain but no one was sticking around.

The obligatory picture with the Canadian flag.

Today I am leaving the mountains behind as I head northwest to spend Thanksgiving with Carleigh and Jon at the vegan camp. (Yes, I am putting a lot of kilometres on the Versa this weekend.) I haven’t been there in months so I am looking forward to seeing all the improvements that they have done over the summer.

Hope you are having a fabulous weekend!
