I fell on black ice. Now I can’t run. It sucks.

I feel so silly right now.

It was so nice outside after work on Monday. I think it was about +3 when I finished up at work. I hemmed and hawed about driving home and simply running on my treadmill. In the end, I decided that I didn’t want to waste the warm temperatures. I should have driven home.

About 3K into my run, I wiped out on a piece of black ice. Usually when I spot ice, I jump to the side or even walk across it. This time I didn’t see it all. Because it was so unexpected, I did not have time to brace. My feet left the ground and I banged my head on the pavement. I went down slightly on my left ankle and I have the bruises to show!

I got up and brushed myself off and continue to run albeit slower for another 7K. That night I was feeling slightly danced but I didn’t think anything about it. The next morning, I could barely move my neck and my left ankle was swollen. I feel really out of it. I went into work for a few hours before I went to a walk in clinic.

Fortunately I didn’t get concussion and I didn’t break anything. I have a slight strain in a ligament in my left foot and my neck. The doctor gave me  a handful of muscle relaxants and pain killer samples. Then I spent the day watching Longmire on Netflix.

Today I feel slightly better and the swelling on my foot has gone down. I am in no shape to run because I don’t think the pounding would do my neck any good. I am crossing my fingers when I wake up tomorrow everything will be back to normal.

I’m trying not to be too annoyed with myself. Hiccups happen.

  1. omg I can’t believe you kept on running after that!! Okay, fingers-crossed no longer-lasting effects from that and, thank goodness, nothing broken! Heal fast!
