Leave the Crock Pot alone …

It’s not easy being super woman. Much as I try, I cannot do it all. Being organized is one of my keys to not having a complete breakdown. I have started to get back into my habit of weekend food prep. (It helps when I have food in my cupboards and refrigerator but we won’t get into that here.)

It’s easy to get out of this habit in the summer because I am usually away most weekends, which means I am generally rushing around like mad on Sunday nights.

But after summer comes five months of winter. (Fall briefly makes its appearance but not long enough.) Cold temperatures, icy highways and snowy conditions do not make for comfortable day trips.

I traded a George Foreman grill for this lovely Crock Pot.

Enter the Crock Pot.

This is the best tool for simplifying your week day meals. I’ve had this beauty for about eight years now. I traded my George Foreman Grill for the slow cooker. It’s wonderful for cooking beans and lentils. I’ve made some pretty wicked lentil curries.

I feel so organized. Now you may have heard the Crock Pot has been making headlines lately since it was revealed that it was a Crock Pot that caused the Pearson house to burn down on This is Us.

Oh the backlash and creative PR campaign on Twitter.

Crazy right? Love it. I have no doubt after this drama, people are dusting off their Crock Pots and making heart-warming food. Right now I am making anything and everything with lentils. They are cheap, bursting with goodness and so tasty. One day soon, I will branch out and try another legume or bean.

Any suggestions?

  1. I’ve been loving my Instant Pot lately for beans, best part is that I don’t have to soak them, because I suck at remembering or thinking ahead. 1 hr from dry beans to fully cooked ones!

  2. A confession—-we don’t use out crock pot a lot but any time we have, it’s been meat-based. Do you have any vegan or vegetarian suggestions for a house full of young men who are fond of meat??
