Road to 100K training update

I’m super paranoid about getting injured while training. In case you missed it: I’ve registered for my first 100K! Plus I have a 60K race, three 50Ks and a 25K race on my document for 2018. It’s pretty aggressive for me but I am so excited to challenge these distances and races this season.

A big part of my training plan is total body strengthening. I need to be able to hold my body up for hours on end. When I used to do crossfit four to five times at week at 6 a.m., I was never injured. I didn’t have to do hill repeats. Man I was strong. But that was then and this is now. I am a total weakling right now.

Joining GoodLife Fitness is supposed to change that. I have been doing my own mini WODS when I can fit it into my schedule. Right now I am going twice a week to work on core and my bum right leg. Eventually I will throw in some upper body stuff too.

I mean business when I am in the gym. My goal is to be in and out in an hour (and that’s with a steam). I don’t have time to waste and I am not really into that whole – I am going to strut around the gym scene. Enough people in the gym do that already. In the spring, I hope to get to the gym more often. There’s so many things I want to try – the cycling classes, yoga etc.

My pal Patty joins me on Mondays for some partner strength work. It’s a lot of fun and we can hold each other accountable. It’s nice to have some company because doing core work is not sexy. I have been very consistent and I am happy and crossing my fingers all this hard work will pay off.

Lately I have only been running on the treadmill because of the cold temperatures. Saturday, however, gave us a little reprieve with temperatures hovering around -10. I had a nice run around the city on plowed and not-so plowed trails. You never know what you are going to get in the winter. It snowed Saturday night and temperatures were back in the area of -24C. I went for the treadmill again. (Hey I bought it last year for these days. Why would I suffer for a couple hours when I could suffer inside watching Netflix.)

It’s supposed to be warmer this week so I will get outside for some quality runs. Today I focused on “climbing” while I ran on the treadmill. I hope to get in some hill repeats this week outside.

Hope you’re having a great weekend!

  1. Holy, what a season you’ve got planned! Where in that batch of races does the 100 fall? End? Middle?
Apparently we have bum right legs, at the same time! Sucks! I’m also back to Goodlife but I’m not one of the strutters, THAT’S for sure—-head straight for the machines and bang, bang, bang, get ‘er done! What bothers me the most are the people who will be in the middle of using the machine and then stop and use their phone, or just talk to the buddy they brought with them. SO annoyng. Any way, so looking forward to following your progress in the coming weeks and months, Crystal! Cheers!
