Slowing down & podcast recommendations

I met Laura Sunday morning for a two-part run – 10K with Ghost then 10 or 11K just the two of us. That was fine with me. I needed some company to get my butt out the door. It’s not terribly exciting running solo around Red Deer for the two hundredth time. As well I have been running ragged since about June so it was nice to not drive anywhere this weekend. (Actually I was supposed to take photos at a race in the mountains but a flat tire put an end to those plans.)

Running with Laura is always great. We never run out of things to talk about. Although we don’t run together that often – I am in the mountains. She’s off promoting her book or doing research – I am going to miss our runs and our chats.

Smile for the camera Ghost.

I had another low mileage week. My body was craving some downtime. During Iron Legs, I had a minor hiccup with my right knee. Hence the bandage. Nothing serious so far so I thought I would give it some extra support for the next few runs. That being said … I haven’t run since Sunday. I’ll get on that today!

As you may be aware, I left my job at the newspaper. My last day was Friday. My new job starts on Tuesday so I have this week to find a place to live in Calgary, pack, clean, train and get stuff sorted. Yup it’s as overwhelming as it sounds. But I am not going to stress about it.

Podcasts

I love listening to podcasts while I am running or when I am driving down the highway. My long time favourites are Trail Runner Nation, The Moth, Ted Talks etc.  Man, there’s a lot of great stuff out there. Last week I came across an article which suggested a number of must listen to podcasts.

So far I have been obsessively listening to Shawn Stevenson on the The Model Health Show. Obviously from the title you can tell it’s a podcast about health. The topics range from getting enough sleep, nutrition to fitness with the underlying goal to be the best version of yourself. It’s one of the top health podcasts, if not the best, on iTunes. Not only is this man’s voice smooth as heck, he is relatable. His diverse guest list is inspiring.

What I am listening to:

Do you have a favourite podcast? Most of the podcasts I listen to have been recommendations from other people. I would love to hear what you are listening to. Let me know what you think I should listen to in the comments below.
