Training in West Bragg

Hey friends. I met Rachel for a bit of a training session at the West Bragg Creek trails for my long run on Saturday. We ran/hiked the same route from last weekend. Great to have some company and I didn’t get us lost! Success.

I dragged my butt getting on the road but I made it to Bragg in record time. Traffic was light and I made it to the parking lot in 1:45. We lucked out and found a parking spot. There was a youth ski competition scheduled for the entire weekend. I had contacted organizers to ensure we could run on the side that wasn’t in use.

It was a crazy beautiful day. I found it slightly icier than last week. That may have been because I chose not to wear my spikes. I had to hold onto Rachel for some support a few times. The only time I fell was when we were nearly ploughed over my two other runners headed in the opposite direction. Like dominos I fell then Rachel fell. The male runner was kind enough to shout “Buy Spikes” while we were on the ground assessing our injuries. Nice fellow.

Eventually we hit the lovely dirt. I can’t wait to train here when all the snow is gone. I am happy to find a new training partner in Rachel who will meet up with me when she’s free. Rachel and her hubby are also running Lost Soul so we always have so much to talk about!

west braggSigns of spring were all around us. Yup that’s green. (Please ignore my Ronald McDonald compression socks.) I was completely overdressed but you never know with the weather in West Bragg. It’s always changing.

team nuunThis is my favourite selfie of the day! Love my Nuun hat. I’m not very photogenic so you won’t see many pictures of my mug on my blog. But yes you will see lots of #runfies featuring my sneakers.

west braggWe had a great day and it was over before I knew it. My legs felt strong and capable. Building my base can be long and tiresome but I know it’s important in order to stay healthy and to stay running. I feel good with my training so far. It seems to be on track.

rolling
Back home I did some serious rolling. My right calf was seriously tight. I had to bring out the hard roller for some tough love. My legs have been thanking me for all the extra rolling lately. Not to mention, yoga is really helping with my daily stretching.

This week I will find out if I make it into the 2016 New York City Marathon. In a way I hope I don’t get in because the dollar is so awful right now. I won’t be upset if I am still in Alberta in November watching the results online.

Happy trails and have a wonderful week.
