Road Trip 2015: First stop Kamloops

I have only driven through Kamloops on my way to somewhere else. It’s a perfect first stop when you are driving from Red Deer to Vancouver or Victoria. It’s 750 kilometres which takes about 8 to 8.5 hours if traffic is on your side.My pal Lana, who was part of our 13 Miles and Higher running group, now calls Kamloops home. Once I decided that I would drive to B.C. for my holidays, I asked Lana if I could sleep on her couch or pitch my tent in her backyard.

After a crazy drive through rain storms I made it to Kamloops at a reasonable time. I had dinner with Lana and Al and their kids. They have a wonderful home and a lovely swimming pool! The next morning we got up early to meet Audrey for a run. Doug and Audrey were in the city by random luck.

We headed to the Rivers Trail for a short out and back. Audrey was pressed for time so we kept it short.

Just two weeks ago Lana ran the Kamloops marathon. Then a week or so later, she celebrated her 40th birthday by running 40K. This was her first run since her birthday 40K.

Lana took me to a popular park on Sunday. It was beautiful. I loved all the hills. What a perfect spot for hill training.

Of course we had lots of time to mess around with photos. In the end we finally got the timing (sorta) right for our jumps.

Our hike ended with a quick pint at The Noble Pig. Apparently the pub used to be a hotel’s swimming pool. How cool is that? The brew was great! I enjoyed a nice sampler with fries and a salad. (Click on the link and check out the funky beer names like the Fascist Pig Pilsner and the Prodigal Swine Dark Amber)

I loved Kamloops! Lana tried to convince me to move there. Imagine all the running and hiking we could do, she said! Maybe one day! It was a great start to my holiday. I spent another night in Kamloops on my way back to Red Deer and I had some time to check out the downtown and to run up Kenna Cartwright once more.

More than anything it was so awesome to get caught up with old friends!

  1. I've never spent anytime in Kamloops either, just stopped by briefly on the way to somewhere else. Jumping photos aren't easy with two people especially!
