Stepping up my running game

The carrot is out of the bag …. I signed up for a 100K race at the end of September. I thought it was fitting to announce my big, scary plans in my running column in the Red Deer Advocate. I started writing a biweekly running column when I was challenged by the sports editor to run a 10K then write about my journey. It was truly the best thing I did because I had just moved to the community, and I did not know anyone outside of work.

Fast forward eight years, I continue to write, blog and post about running – I have been published in Canadian Running Magazine, blogs and newspapers. I have interviewed countless other runners, race volunteers and directors. I have written about my own ups and downs. I’m happy to be part of a wonderful, encouraging and kick ass running community. (Most of my friends, I owe to running.)

Writing about your passion comes easy. Ask anyone. I started this blog when I was in South Korea teaching English. It was a way to stay in touch with friends and to keep a record of experiences. (In the early days, I would just use a school computer because I didn’t own a laptop. My how times I have changed.) It wasn’t until I moved back to Ottawa then eventually to Alberta when I started to write about running. I’ve always appreciated the support from my readers over the years. I look back at some of my posts from the early days – man, I was a nutter (as Rachel would say).

Today I invite you along as I delve into the training for this 100K. It’s not going to be easy. I am scared and excited at the same time. I appreciate your support and your positive vibes.
